Cold War Submarine Incident Tour
The 1981 Soviet nuclear submarine incident in Karlskrona that shook the world
Tour description
A foggy October morning in 1981, at the height of the Cold War, the Soviet submarine U137 ran aground on a rock in the Karlskrona archipelago. An international crisis was a fact, and for 11 days the worlds eyes were focused on this small and peaceful city. Join this exciting boat tour where a former naval officer that was in midst of the action in 1981, will tell you about the incident that shook the world.
On the way back to the pier, you’ll make a stop at the island of Stumholmen for a unique visit onboard the warship “Västervik”. Here you’ll have private access to the room where the Soviet captain and political officer were interrogated – a real time-capsule where everything is just like it was in 1981.
